Zoo at School

Winner of the 2020 Kops-Fetherling Book Award Bronze - Honorable Mention

Anna has recently moved to Chic-a-ta, a small town in Texas. She is surprised to encounter an African lion roaming freely while riding her horse through the countryside. This unexpected meeting with Samson, the lion, introduces her to the Chic-a-ta Zoo and the family that operates it.

Soon, she and her new friends at the zoo become actively involved in caring for a unique group of animals, including Samson, Bertha the elephant, Spot the giraffe, Harry Houdini the chimp, and more.

Then, the unthinkable happens. A wicked plot is executed to condemn the zoo, leading to the animals being released from their cages. They end up trampling the local high school and frightening the townspeople.

The only way to save the beloved animals is to guide them to 'Freedom Ranch,' a wildlife refuge. However, an angry councilman and his posse are in pursuit, determined to destroy the animals. Will Anna and her friends reach the sanctuary in time, or will they have to watch the posse kill the zoo animals?
